Was the world ready for spacial computing?
Apple’s big bet on the future of computing isn’t paying off as planned.
Apple’s big bet on the Vision Pro isn’t working out as planned. The company’s first mixed reality headset is running into serious trouble.
According to The New York Post, Apple has drastically reduced production of its mixed-reality headset to just 1,000 units per day, down from its initial 2,000-unit daily output. The company’s sales figures tell a sobering story, with only 370,000 headsets sold in the first three quarters of 2024, and projections suggesting a mere additional 50,000 units might move by January.
The Vision Pro arrived at a time when the general public wasn’t prepared for the paradigm shift to spatial computing.
Despite Apple’s innovative approach, the $3,500 price point and the fundamental change in how people interact with technology created significant adoption barriers.
